PROF. ERLE ARGONZA, HERBAL-ORGANIC ADVOCATE, GUESTS AT RADYO VERITAS
Bro. Erle Frayne Argonza, sociologist & economist, guested at Radyo Veritas last June of 2007. The program hosted by Dr. Robert Tan, held every 3:30-5:00 p.m of Saturdays regarding herbal medicine, invited Prof. Erle Argonza among the guests for that day.
Dr. Tan is among the noted advocates for herbal medicine in the Philippines. To substantiate his advocacy, he launched the Carica herbals corporation that has been among the bulwarks of scientific R & D regarding herbals and organics for medical purposes. Dr. Tan has been particularly vigilant in pushing for strong health policy instruments to regulate the herbal & organics sector, more so in the light of the proliferation of fake herbals coming from China. He cautioned the audience against the massive proliferation of fake herbals, and recommended steps to do in order to recognize the authentic from the fake ones.
On the other hand, Prof. Erle Argonza, who was previously a professor at the University of the Philippines Manila, is among the strongest advocates of herbal-organics & wellness among social scientists. His earlier advocacies led him to interface with medical scientists, social scientists, top state officials and academics regarding the advancement of alternative health practices inclusive of R&D and utilization of herbal medicine and organics. He was among the behavioral scientists who moved towards the take-off of health social science around the years ‘89-‘91.
On his own volition, Prof. Argonza immersed with mystics in ‘93-‘94 who were also practitioners of pranic healing, invocative tools for healing, and herbal-organics. Upon becoming a mystic in 1994, Prof. Argonza received a training in pranic healing which he eventually used for detoxifying psychologically burdened clients prior to psychosocial counseling. Prof. Argonza also administered pranic healing for clients (patients) with physical ailments such as cancer and throat tumor. As part of his training, Prof. Argonza can administer pranic healing on long distance, or without physical contact between patient and healer.
Asked about his personal experience with herbal medicine, Prof. Argonza positively appreciated herbals for healing his recurring throat infections, sinusitis and allergic rhinitis. Among the products he cited for his regular usage are the Carica products for the same infections and for asthma and cough. Recently, after suffering from recurring angina pains, Prof. Argonza utilized the cardiac capsule formula and virgin coconut oil or VCO (Carica brand) which he combined with garlic pills and omega-3. In his experience, the angina pains as well as the observed heart swelling receded after barely four (4) months of intake.
Echoing the apprehensions of Dr. Tan, Prof. Argonza likewise cautioned the consumers against fake herbal and organic formulations coming from overseas as well as formulations that have low levels of professionalism in their development made here in the country. In fairness to state institutions and health stake holders, both Prof. Argonza and Dr. Tan lauded the progression of regulation of herbal-organics in the country, proof of the advanced level of R&D and professionalization of the sector.
Prof. Argonza also shared a very meaningful forecast that herbals & organics, which to a large extent is part of the wellness sector, will boom in the coming years as the wellness sector is now in its growth stage. As foreseen by economists and sociologists, the wellness sector will eventually surpass the sickness sector (hospitals & clinics) in terms of product consumption and patronization. The wellness consciousness of people, accompanied by the ballooning of the middle class worldwide, drives them to search for alternative paradigms of health. This increasing health awareness has found home in the herbals & organics sector that had received an impetus in its overall growth.
The radio program also had an interactive portion. In this segment, many callers from among the radio audience registered their questions to both Dr. Tan and Prof. Argonza. Prof. Argonza found this radio program not only very informative but contributory, in the long run, to the galvanization of a counter-culture against drug-based and sickness-oriented health care.
