PRO GYMN OF U.P. INVITES BRO. ERLE ARGONZA TO GRACE CHRISTMAS PARTY

The PRO Gymn, one of the country’s top weight-training and wellness gymns, scheduled the Christmas party for its U.P. Club on the night of the 16th of December (Saturday) this year.

Various club members who are topnotch professionals in their fields were invited to grace the occasion. This gymn counts ”Who Is Who” professionals among its members, including international consultants and famed professors from U.P.. The PRO Gymn had also produced top powerlifting athletes from among the young lady professors in the 1990s.

Bro. Erle Frayne Argonza, social scientist, yogi and guru of self-realization, will be among the occasion’s VIP guests. A former professor at the University of the Philippines Manila and a strong advocate of health & wellness in the social scientific community, Bro. Erle is expected to share some insights about successful wellness programs with physical fitness integrated into it.

To recall, Bro. Erle was among the nation’s top powerlifters in the Middle Weight division in the early 1990s. He holds the record of Silver Medal in a National Class A Competition (equivalent of professional class), besting many competitors in the class. It only took Bro. Erle 1 & 1/2 years of intensive training to climb to the said post. His best performance was: Deadlift - 210 Kilograms; Squat - 175 Kilograms; and, Bench Press - 92 Kilograms. He qualified among the “200 Club”–or those who can carry beyond 200 Kilograms for an event (see deadlift)–during that occasion.

Bro. Erle Argonza was trained by the famed Ramon Dabuque, an international athlete bearing the Philippine Flag, at the Zest Fitness Center. The Zest Club is the best of all powerlifting clubs in the country, an achievement met through scientific applications of such tools as the Bulgarian technique and Hawaiian techniques of programming combined with macro-biotic athletic diets. Ramon Dabuque was formerly with the Philippine Weighlifting team, was a product of the University of the Philippines and acquired an MBA from the same world-class university. He is a member of the 300 Club–or those who can carry beyond the 300 Kilogram mark for any event–which he shares with another fellow international athlete from the Zest Club, Eddie Torres.

As a university professor, Bro. Erle Argonza was among the strongest advocates for instituting sports science programs and facilities in the country. The shift of sports from art (physical education) to science (sports science) is the key to the meteoric performance of athletes anywhere in the world. Proof of the power of sports science is the success of the Zest Club members that include Tony Taguibao and Erlina Pecante, both international athletes, who benefited greatly from scientific powerlifting programming.

Bro. Erle Argonza still practices powerlifting today, though more as a strengthening program rather than as a competitive sport. Powerlifting has been his chief physical fitness program as part of his overall wellness formula that also includes yoga meditation,  macrobiotic dieting, and alternative health practices (water therapy, sunlight therapy, herbal-organics for medication & food supplements, and body massage).

Bro. Erle had sustained a weight of 155-57 pounds since 1991 when he climbed from lightweight to middleweight division. Asked for a comment, he quipped that “I plan to reduce my weight further back to 152-154, through dance lessons & practices, God-willing.” Asked about his target dance practice, “Cuban samba” was his emphatic response.
